EALP is a not-for-profit organisation formed to provide evaluation and accreditation services for professional education and training institutions. EALP provides evaluation and accreditation services for private, non-state sponsored institutions. EALP offers an evaluation and accreditation for individual institutions, and for courses developed and offered by individual institutions; EALP does not provide these services for government-owned or government-run institutions, or for universities, or for degree courses, or for medical or engineering courses.

The EALP Board is composed of internationally respected, experienced and qualified members all of whom have been or are involved in quality education and learning provision, course writing, design and development, and EALP is able to call upon the services of a range of international and independent external experts depending on the services required by EALP clients.

EALP provides an independent evaluation of the quality of institutions and/or courses, and of the institution's commitment to quality provision and quality standards, and to best practice. EALP has the flexibility to undertake - or decline to undertake - evaluation and accreditation services, for a wide range of institutions and courses, including courses which fall outside of a purely academic (normally government set) framework.

Frameworks

The Course Evaluation and Accreditation service requires that courses are reviewed and assessed against the key criteria of the EALP Development Course Framework. Where the client institution wishes a course may also be reviewed and assessed against the key criteria of the EALP Course Comparison Framework.

EALP Development Course Framework

The Development Course Framework requires an assessment to be made against the following five criteria:

CRITERIA 1: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

CRITERIA 2: PRACTICAL, VOCATIONAL, APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING

CRITERIA 3: PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS AND COMPLEXITY

CRITERIA 4: COMMUNICATION, MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP

CRITERIA 5: AUTONOMY, ACCOUNTABILITY AND TEAMWORK

EALP Course Comparison Framework

Institutions which issue qualifications, awards and certifications to learners do so in order to confirm that the learner has undertaken a course and has satisfied the institutions' requirements for successful completion of the course.

As part of the Course Evaluation and Accreditation service, institutions may - if they wish, it is not compulsory to do so - indicate the level which they believe is correct and appropriate for the course. The level shall be analaysed in terms of size, content and difficulty.

Size mainly refers to the duration of the course and how long it usually takes to complete the course and achieve its aims and objectives.

Content mainly refers to the breadth of the course, its specialisation and/or variety of topics and subjects covered.

Difficulty mainly refers to the mental ability, standard and higher abilities needed to complete a course.

As part of the Executive Summary of EALP's evaluation and accreditation decision for a course, EALP may give its view on the size, content and difficulty, and its assessment of a fair comparison of the course to other qualifications levels, as follows:-
